Homeschool Highlights - Week of November 14, 2010

Sunday:

Attended worship services.  Shayla was delighted that most of the songs we sang were her favorites. 

Read aloud Junie B. Jones is a Beauty Shop Guy

Colored Christmas cards for soldiers serving at the holidays for Operation Caring Hearts. 

Unit study:  Pumpkins. 
I wanted to do this one in early October, but, well, life got in the way.  Better late than never!

Bible:  Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord...  2 Samuel 22:50

Monday: 

Bible:  God is our Protector.  Psalm 71:1-5.

Devotions:  Don't Worry...Be Happy!  Matt. 6:25-34.

Reading:  Starting The Bridge Book.  It's made up of short poems to review / re-enforce letter and blend sounds.  Let's Fly, Mother, May I?  Sh-h-h, Thick or Thin, This or That, Three in the Tree, Splish Splash.

Read Aloud:  Finished Junie B. Jones is a Beauty Shop Guy

Social Studies:  Christopher Columbus
  • Read The Story of Columbus by Anita Ganeri
  • Made this book about his voyage.
Columbus sailed the ocean blue,
in fourteen hundred ninety-two (1492)













Tuesday:

Bible:  God is our Dwelling Place.  Psalm 90:1-6.

Devotions:  Every Person Matters.  Romans 12:3-5.  Discussed how everyone has different talents and how we should use those talents to serve.  Each talent is different, but equally important. 

Reading:  The Bridge Book.  My Kite, Wake Up! Toil for Oil, I Like Books, The Gator and the Goose, Beach Fun, The Work Horse, Night Flight

Math:  Lessons 78 and 79.  Done in record time using Touch Math method.  Woo-hoo!  She is also beginning to memorize smaller addition facts (0 - 3's).  We played the flashcard game and she got ALL of them correct, but one.  We even had time to play store.  She needs continued help in knowing which coins to use and counting them.

Spelling:  List 10 words (er, ir, ur words).  Completed workbook sections 1-4.  I ASL fingerspelled the words and she spelled the words verbally.

Handwriting:  Working on Badge 7 - The Beatitudes.  *We got behind, so we had quite a bit of writing to do today.  This is not the normal amount.

Thursday:

Read Aloud:  Junie B. Jones Has a Peep in ther Pocket

Field Trip:  Packed shoeboxes and shipping boxes for Lifeline Christian Missions for sponsored Haitian children.

Friday: 

Bible:  God Shows Lovingkindness.  Psalm 92:1-5

Devotions:  Big Things From Small Seeds.  Mark 40:30-32.

Reading:  The Bridge Book:  One Wet Morning, A Snappy Jingle, Marty's Long Flight, At the Camp, My Model T

Language/phonics:  Lesson 67

Math:  Lesson 81.
