Meijer and Kroger savings - February 24, 2009

I try to shop multiple stores each week to get the best deals. My job is to stretch hubby's $$$ as far as possible.

Kroger this week had the Starkist tuna pouches on sale 10 for $10. I bought 6 of these pouches and used 4 $1 off coupons and 2 B1G1 coupons.

Total oop $0.00!!!!

This week's Meijers trip

1 bunch of bananas
3 Johnson buddies soap 3.17 each - used $3 off 3 products coupon
1 bag kidney beans
1 bag of brown rice
1 jar natural peanut butter
6 land o lakes buttery spread $1.25 each - used 6 .50 off mc (doubled) .25 each
Then came the 10 for 10 items, with the 11th item being free:
3 bags freshlike broccoli
2 grands biscuits - mc (doubled)
2 campbells kids soups - 40 mc (doubled) - $1.20
1 aunt jemima great starts - $1 mc - free
1 dole salad
1 aunt millie's bread - $1 mc - free
8 bounty paper towels - 3 $1 off mc coupons & 5 25c mc (doubled)
I got two items for free. How? If you checked my math, I did not purchase 22 items. I was four items short. I had planned to purchase 22 items. They were out of the puffs tissues - I have 4 25 mc (doubled). I explained this to the checker and he took another $1 off my order and gave me a raincheck! At first he didn't get it, but don't take no for an answer. The stuff was advertised they should have it in stock, if not they still need to honor the sale price! After all, it's you being inconveienced.
And lastly, the best deal of all:
Meijers had buy 3 singles hershey or mars candy bars - Get 3 free.
I had 6 B1G1F mc to stack on this deal. The result? I bought 6 candy bars and got 18 free! Awesome! Hubby was happy, he loves dark chocolate!
I'm embarrassed to say that it took me some time to figure out how many free candy bars I would get. In fact, I gave it to Morgan as a math problem. She was actually interested in learning it because it was something real (and free chocolate!) She took the problem to school for the class to make an equation for.
Total oop $25.25 - Savings of $41.04

Kroger Trip - December 12, 2008

Add Image
This weeks trip was great. But, I caught an error that would have cost me $7.39. The deal was you had to buy 10 items from the 10 for $10 sale to get your soda 4 12pks for $10. I bought 10 items, but one item rang up $2.39 instead of $1, so then I didn't get the soda discount. They graciously corrected it at customer service, but CHECK ALL RECEIPTS!!!!

4 12 pks mountain dew (hubby can't live without) $10.00
1 loaf of bread $1.00
1 Duncan Hines cake $1.00 - $1.00 Q = free
1 twin pack tyson cornish hens $5.00 - $1.00 Q
1 bunch bananas $1.59
1 bag lifesavers candy $1.00 - $1 Q = free
1 strip fleishman yeast $1.00 - $1.33 Q = free plus .33 overage
1 bag fresh express salad $1.50 - $1.33 Q
2 duncan hines frostings $3.34 - $1.50 Q
1 Daisy sour cream $1.00 - $1 Q = Free
2 Parkay margarines $1.00 each - $1.50/2 Q

2 suave bodywash $2.19 - used B1g1F Q
2 pantene products (one for $4.39 one for $4.29) - used B1G1F P&G esaver Q and $1/2 pantene products Q
1 Suave deodorant $1.19 - $1 Q
2 Sure deodorants $1.00 each - 2 $1.00 Q = 2 free
1 tampax tampons $2.99 - $1 Q + .50 esaver

*Here's where it's helpful to "stack" your coupons. As you can see for several of the HBC items, I used a paper coupon as well as the P&G esaver on my Kroger card (sign up at Kroger.com). To make the deal even sweeter, I used a Kroger store coupon $3 off $15 in health and beauty care. My subtotal on HBC was $19.24.

So. . . after coupons, I spent $4.16 on our personal care products!!!

The total spend on this trip was $24.70!!!!

At Kroger.com you can sign up for e-coupons through Shortcuts, Proctor & Gamble and Unilever. The great thing about the e-coupons is you can "double dip" on the same product using a manufacturer's coupon.

1 French's dijon mustard $1.29 - $1 mc

1 French's yellow mustard $1.29 - free with purchase of dijon mustard with mc

1 Kraft salad dressing - $2.00 - free with manu. coupon in Kraft Food & Family

2 Dole fruit snacks $1.99 each - $.75 manu. coupon

7 kroger cottage cheese, sour cream and chip dips $7.00 - $1.50/$7 Kroger dairy store coupon

2 Suave Professional Haircare - 1.50 ea. - $1.00/2 unilever e-coupon & $1 mc =
$.50 each

2 tampax pearl tampons - $3.89 ea. - BOGO P&G e-coupon & 2-$1 mc = $.94 each.

1 Wisk laundry detergent - $3.49 - $1.50 unilever e-coupon & $1.50 mc = $.49

For a total of $12.40

What deals did you see? Did I miss anything?

Grocery Savings

It looks like a slow week at Kroger this week after the last two weeks. They were running a two week Mega Deal. Some of the products were the same both weeks, some were different. Basically, many items were $1.00, $1.50, $2.00, and $2.50. If you bought 10 of any of these products (they did not have to be 10 of the same, it was mix and match - 10 total) you got $5.00 off your total. You could do these 3 times in 1 transaction, for a savings of $15.00.

This was a good deal, but to sweeten it, there were many coupons in the past Sunday paper inserts and printables to put with them, either making many items free or causing an overage. See my sidebar for some of my favorite coupon printing sites.
I was also lucky enough to have some Kroger coupons to "stack" with my manufacturer coupons.

The first week of the mega event I got $118.07 worth of groceries for .... Drum roll please... $28.03! (I broke this into 2 transactions to get 4 mega event deals) The second week,(I can't find one receipt)I did about the same.

Is that awesome or what!?! Sure we have more boxes of hot pockets and tubes of Pillsbury biscuits than I can count, but it will be eaten. And, by planning our menu around sales and coupons we have actually brought down the food expense catagory in our budget! Even though we have an abundance!
