The Nativity Story

I have been wanting to see this movie since it came out, but our library never got it.  It was definately a good movie!

We watched The Nativity Story as a family movie around Christmas time, but it could be enjoyed anytime of the year.

I loved how it puts a visual in our minds of the time leading up to the birth of Christ.
Even though you know the ending of the story, it was still exciting!

In reading the words of the Bible, I never even thought about how brutal that time period of history was.  How the people had no hope, they would always be slaves.  If they did not have the money to pay their taxes (whatever amount they were expected to pay) they had to give up a daughter, or their lives.  They had no choice whether they would travel the rugged terrain to be counted in the census and pay their taxes.  They didn't even have a choice in whom they would marry.  The thought never occured to me that Mary and Joseph might have been an arranged marriage that Mary wasn't truly happy about, in the beginning.  I know this was a common practice in those time, but is there a verse that supports this, or is it Hollywood?

Did you see the movie?  What did you think?

We really loved this movie! Bought it so we could watch it every Christmas after reading the Christmas story from the book of Luke.
