Homeschool Day 39 - Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Theater Day!!! We love to incorporate Children’s Theater Foundation plays into our homeschool. They are always such fun. The first one of the year was If You Give a Pig a Pancake and Other Stories. The other stories were all wildly popular children’s stories. We had read several, but we will be checking the library for the others.

Last year we seen productions about Helen Keller by Dancing Wheels, and a tribute to Dr. Seuss, Swimmy and other stories by Leo Lionni. There were others, but I can’t think of them right now.

Sorry there are no pictures. They did not allow any photography at this show. Some have a special time after the show for photography, but this particular show did not allow any photos.

Of course after watching If You Give a Pig a Pancake, we came home and read all of Laura Numeroff’s books. They are some of our favorites!

Homeschool Day 40 – Thursday, October 30, 2008

Scouts-at-Home: Careers. Plumber. This profession has been in the media a lot lately. Let me assure you that the only reason I chose this career was because it was mentioned in the scout handbook. We read I Can Be a Plumber. Shayla has helped her dad with plumbing projects in the past. As a toddler, she sat and peacefully played with a box of pvc pipes and fittings. This time the only thing she did was help me plunge the toilet. Yes, it needed it! Don’t ask!!!

Shapes: This was supposed to be only for math, but Shayla had such fun with shapes that I just kept with the theme. That’s the great thing about homeschool! She completed a lot of workbook pages.

She watched Blues Clues Shapes and Colors DVD. We read several shape themed books, where you identify the shapes, including Circus Shapes. We played with her shape sorter toy, identifying shapes as she put the pieces in, a wooden shape puzzle, and Fisher Price Oreo Matching Middles game. I traced my shape cookie cutters and she cut the pieces out and glued them into the corresponding shapes I had drawn on a white paper. Then she traced the name of each shape. (writing)

Homeschool Day 41 – Friday, October 31, 2008

Shapes: We just kept going with this theme, we’ll move on next week when we start on Eric Carle books. We watched Bear in the Big Blue House: Shapes, Sounds & Colors With Bear. We used shape cookie cutters to cut out playdough. We even made a playdough person!
