4th Grade Week 1 – September 5, 2011

Wednesday: (5 hours)

Bible/character: Attentive. A Child’s Book of Character pg. 11 Read and discuss Attentive in the Bible

Therapy.

Reading: Shayla reads aloud PALS books. Making Soup, Breakfast, Little Bo Peep, Time for Dinner, Sam and Tom and answers comprehension questions.

Reading/Language: Write 10 sentences, each containing two words that can be changed into a contraction. Example: Shayla did not come to the party. Have Shayla circle the two words (did not) and rewrite the sentence, replacing the two words with a contraction. Write the same sentences without punctuation and capitalization. Have Shayla make corrections as necessary.  Complete Writing Sentences pg 307

Read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

Handwriting: Badge 11. 1 Thessalonians 5:16. Rejoice evermore.

Activity: Using a ruler, draw one line down the middle of the page and one line across the middle, making four boxes. Draw the number of shapes your instructor has indicated. (Draw a picture of student’s paper divided into fourths. In each fourth, write a number and draw a shape)

Math: Place value/addition review. Have student roll 2 dice. The number on one die tells what to build on the ones place. Build the number of tens rolled on the other die. Read the resulting number from the place value board, then count the manipulatives by ones. Complete Table Time pg. 218.

Practice forming numbers pg R1. Comparing numbers through 5 and identifying shapes.

Social Studies: Around the World. China. Top Secret Adventures packet.
Guide to China. Look over pgs 2-5.  Watched a you tube on the Gate of Tiananmen and the Forbidden City. Complete Forbidding Forms pg 6-7

Science: Was going outside on nature hike to learn about leaves and trees, but it is raining, cold and damp, so we read a pile of books on the subject and will go out later in the week.

Thursday: (5 hours)

Therapy appointment with vision therapist.


Friday: (5 hours)

Therapy.

Reading/language/writing/art/health: Shayla rewrites the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar, substituting the caterpillar’s diet with other foods. Make this into a book and use grocery ads or google images for clip art.












Social Studies: Around the World. China. Highlights Top Secret Adventures. Guide to China. Read Asia’s Giant pg 6-7.  Watched a You Tube the Great Wall of China. Complete Wall Witnesses pg 8-9

Social Studies: Field trip to the grocery store. Go down the ethnic aisle and look at foods and identify what countries they might be from.

4-H/science: Let’s Explore the Outdoors: Getting Ready for the First Trip (read pg 5 and List some items in your outdoor kit.)


Science: Leaves. Read books about leaves. Go outside on a leaf hunt and make rubbings and label different leaves. My leaf collection page 423.

4-H/science: Let’s Explore the Outdoors. Our First Trip – To the Woods. Pg 8. Photograph and identify trees/leaves. Discuss differences between simple and compound leaves.

Circle tree leaves you found on page 10.

Find some trees whose leaves are not shown on page 10 and draw and name them on page 12 (use google image)
