Days 132 - 136
Sunday: We typically do learning games. These games are a relaxed way of doing schoolwork! Makes me wonder why I stress so much the rest of the week! LOL! There's plenty of learning going on here!
- Played Barbie Memory card game. I won this time with 11 matches. We use our memory, which is good for both adolesence and older people, like myself. We also used this time to practice ordinal numbers and more and less concept. (math, character skills - sharing, taking turns)
- Outside playtime. You remember those days. Time to jump on the trampoline, play on the swingset, run around in circles for no reason with no worries, poking a stick at the mud (phys ed)
- Discussed the weather and filled out her weather chart (science)
- Made a lion craft for the month of March. We discussed the old saying comparing March to a lamb and lion. According to our weather chart, it came in like a lamb. I hope it doesn't go out like a lion. We also used this as our Bible lesson. Her memory verse was John 1:29 Jesus is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. (art)
- Started putting together a Molly American Girl Mystery Puzzle. She has only done the wooden children's puzzles so far, so this is a real challenge to her attention span. (fine motor)
- Played Uno, Go Fish and Old Maid card games. Shayla is a little card shark lately! (math)
- Played Jumpstart computer game (computer skills)
Daily:
Reading: Now I'm Reading Level 4 Book 7 Kurt Surfs and Book 8 Swirl and Twirl.
Writing: Finishing up a Reason For Writing workbook pages.
Math: Abeka math curriculum and/or various learning games.
Monday:
The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton
About the Story: A little house was built in the country by a man who wanted all the generations of his family to live in her. The little house enjoyed living in the country, but often wondered what it would be like to live in the city. Times changed and the house became very shabby. After many years, the great-great-granddaughter of the man who built the house moved the house back into the country and she became happy again.
Seasons: The pictures in The Little House show her living through different seasons. Since Springtime just arrived we discussed the seasons. She made a little book showing The Little House in each season. (science, art, fine motor)- Completed a Color-by-Number page.
- Read the Three Little Pigs and discussed building a sturdy home.
- Brainstormed materials to build a house. (shingles, wood, brick, foundation, door) (language)
Used waffle blocks to build a little house.
Tuesday:
There's an Alligator Under My Bed by Mercer Mayer
Completed the workbook pages for this packet.
Watched Reptile a DK Eyewitness video. (science)
Stamped with rubber reptile animals (from an old art kit)
Made a book (art, fine motor)
Sang The Alligator Song by Dr. Jean.
Practiced the ASL sign for alligator. (foreign language)
- Made this cool, paper alligator.
Wednesday:
About the story: A young boy is invited to visit the King and Queen each day for one week. The young boy asks to bring friends with him, and the King and Queen allow him this request. The boy's friends include a giraffe, a hippo, monkeys, an elephant, lions and a seal.
Sang Days of the Week by Dr. Jean (music)
- Read "Recipe for a Hippotamus Sandwich" by Shel Silverstein (language)
Played Animal Follow the Leader and Animal Yoga positions (phys ed)
Practiced the ASL sign for friend. (foreign language)
Used worksheets to make two booklets. One entitled "My Friends," the other was about the animals in the story. (fine motor)
She also made this cute tent of all the animals in the story. (art, fine motor)
Thursday:
Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin HenkesThe girls have loved to make fun of my Barney purple purse since I got it. It made me think of this story. Shayla loved it!
