Homeschool Highlights - Week of April 14 - 19, 2009

Once again I did not get this post ready for the weekly wrap up. Maybe I'll just do it a week behind our schedule.

Days 143 - 148

Read Aloud: I love the Berenstain Bears series. I love how the books teach lessons in behaviors. They are good discussion starters. Shayla got three new ones for Easter, so we spent time reading and discussing them.

We've also been reading about a chapter a day of the Kit American Girl Collection. We are also learning about the depression age period and comparing it with today's situation. After we finish the collection, we will watch the Kit movie.

Scouts at Home: We finished up the Dancercize Brownie Try-it. (music & movement)

We started work on Earth and Sky and Earth is our Home badges, just in time for Earth Day. (science)

Math: Graphs. We made graphing fun by counting and graphing shoes (by color) and m&m candies.

Art: Shayla finished up her art assessment book by making texture bugs. This has really been a fun way to teach and learn art. And you can't beat the price FREE.

Phonics/motor skills: We made an alphabet book by cutting out letters and pictures from magazines for each letter of the alphabet. She really got into this activity. We even spent several hours Friday night and Saturday working on it!

Science: Attended Outdoor School at the local state park. This week's topic was birds. They made an edible birds nest craft.

Field Trip: A trip to the eye doctor for her annual appointment and a library visit. More on this in a later post! Big news for her!

Edible crafts are always a big hit here. And, hey, I don't usually close the Wrap-Up until Tuesdays, so maybe that'll help with the promptness factor. ;-)

What a fun week! I love how you manage to catagorize all of the lessons into subjects- perfect for record keeping.

Sounds like a wonderful week! We enjoyed reading one of the Kit books. I love the idea of comparing it to our current economic situation.
