E is for Elijah

Memory verse: the Lord will hear when I call to Him. Psalm 4:3

We watched the story of Elijah's Chariot of Fire on the Read 'n' See Dvd Bible. She loves the stories on tv, then there's usually a song after the story. This is an awesome Bible for littles, check it out here.

We also read Elijah's Victory and Elijah's Chariot of Fire in 100 Bible Stories 100 Bible Songs. She loves this Bible because it also uses music. We sang Climb Sunshine Mountain and Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. For more info about this book check here.

Social Studies: We discussed the Easter holiday for letter E. When it is, customs that we do, etc.

Science/Math: God gave us eyes for letter E. We counted eyes in our house, then compared colors, and talked about more/less. BTW, the greens won out in our house!

Science: We talked about ecology. Ways of taking care of the earth and we did a verbal demonstration of a food chain. (ie..The little fish eat the seaweed, the bigger fish eats the little fish, finally the whale or shark eats the fish).

One book suggestion is talking about endangered animals. We already did that when she earned the Animals try-it for scouts.

Social studies: We discussed elections. That is a big topic in our home, as I'm sure it is in many right now. We talked about how every four years we get to chose a new President and this is one of those years. Voting is how we will do it. We talked about how it is our honor and duty to choose wisely the people who will govern or make laws for us.

I got these activities from Grace Publications Bible ABC's Teaching Units. The book is no longer available.

We also sang the song Elijah from The Singing Bible And did activities from dltk - we colored the coloring pages and put in her Bible Scrapbook.

Of course, we had to do a hands-on activity to make it memorable for her. My mind was pretty much mush by late afternoon, so I came up with this:

Here's Elijah in his chariot of fire. It's a doll in a shoebox. We made reins for the horses with yarn and duct taped them to the box.

Here's Shayla flying Elijah and his chariot of fire through the kitchen.

She loved the activity. In fact, she begged me to "play church" with her some more! LOL!
