CVS Savings - Feb 24, 2009

First off, I'd like to take this moment to publically congratulate my oldest daughter on learning how to cut her budget with CVS shopping. She is quickly becoming addicted. Maybe it's in her genes?!?




I have pretty much avoided CVS lately. Why? Because we have towers of toilet paper and toothpastes, deodorants, and razors galore.



However, I completed an online survey for $10 ecb and I had additional ecb's that I refused to let expire, so I drug myself out to do a little CVSing.


I got a $5 off $30 purchase CRT last week. Now what could I possibly get for $30 - there is nothing good on sale this week!



After looking harder, here's what I got:

1 CVS antacid $1.99 - used 1 free CRT coupon

1 colgate cavity toothpaste .88 - used a 75c off mc

1 suave hairspray $3.19 - used a free suave product mc

1 Carefree pantiliners 60 ct. $4.49 get $2 ecb back - used a $2 off CVS CRT and a $1 mc.



Deal: Buy $20 of revlon products - get $10 ecb back

2 Revlon blushes at $9.99 each - $2 off CVS CRT and 2 - $2 Revlon color coupons
1 revlon tweezer at $4.99 each


Total (before coupons) $37.33



Total after coupons and ecb's $2.20 an I earned an additional $12 ecb's to add to the $12 I haven't spent yet!



To prove to you that I haven't done much CVSing this year, my winter spending total is only $27.85 and most of that is just tax that the ecb's won't apply to. My year to date savings is already $281.40!



As a side note, I don't really post the deals, but if you'll look on my frugal friends sidebar, there are alot of gals that do write out the deals and explain the whole CVS shopping craze.

Confessions of a Coupon-a-holic: From a Husband's Prospective

This is a funny post about how a husband feels about his wife's new found frugal activities. Shopping!!!

I can totally relate to this post. When I first started CVSing and coupon shopping about a year ago, my husband said, "Is this legal? Are the cops going to come looking for you?" Now he's totally on board with me getting his soda pop and 3 more bags of stuff at CVS for $1.86 oop (that's out of pocket) for anyone who doesn't speak coupon lingo.

My oldest daughter was talking about having to go to the store to buy shampoo, and such because she was out. I found myself telling her "What, you paid full price for that stuff! Why if you only lived closer, we have enough shampoo for five years!"

WooHoo!! I just earned $15 CVS ECB

I completed a short survey for CVS today and will be paid with $15 of Extra Care Bucks! I have done probably half a dozen surveys over the past year. So, it's not a way to get filthy rich compliments of CVS, but hey, every little bit helps.

It'll be fun to use this at our new CVS store. There was also a stack of $2/10 coupons only for our new store. I hope there are some better deals to use them on next week.

Are CVS ECB Days Numbered?

Last week I seen where Iheartcvs.com and Iheartriteaid.com were featured on ABC news.

Imagine my surprise when I clicked on I heart CVS this week for the weekly ad, and the web site was no longer there!

I googled it, thinking it was just something quirky. Come to find out, CVS has filed a complaint against the site for copyright laws. Apparently, someone doesn't like the fact that you can print off CVS coupons from that site. They ordered all CVS related materials removed from the site.

Sure there are people who abuse the system. I read somewhere about a family buying $700 worth of merchandise from CVS and spending like $2 oop, using only CVS $$ off coupons. But for the most part, people are using the coupons in a legitimate way. I know personally, I would not shop CVS if it were not for the Extra Care Program and the $$ off coupons. Let's face it, CVS is not losing money when CVSers do their shopping. Have you ever read the fine print on a manufacturer coupon. The manufacturers pay the retailers the cost of the coupon and extra for the hassle. In my opinion, CVS should be welcoming CVSers with open arms! I'm sure with all the people that are trying it, CVS's stocks have to be doing well. Let's face it, you don't stay in business if you don't make money.

So, in light of this, what if anything are you going to do about this? Should we call CVS and/or boycott them or what?
