Water Xylophone

This is an activity that Shayla and I have done several times before. It's something she really enjoys doing. I guess I have another musically inclined child. She originally seen this on an old episode of Blue's Clues and asked if we could do it.
First, we count out 8 pint jars. (8 for the musical scale...do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, da) (math & music)
Next, we add water to each of the 8 jars. Fill the first one up, then a little less in each after. We discuss more/less (math).

We like to add food color to make a colored water xylophone. Of course it's fun to do color mixing with the food color and guess what color we'll make (science).

Last, she takes a spoon and makes tunes with the xylophone. The different levels of water make different sounds. We discussed sounds and pitches. We made guesses which sound would be higher/lower. (music and science).
