FlyLady

No, I'm not talking about the organizational guru, FlyLady, herself. I'm talking about my daughter, Shayla. She became buggy about bugs this summer with the library's summer reading program. All the programs were based on bugs. Then, she earned a free book from Barnes & Noble from reading a dozen or so books.

She chose this one because it's by Tedd Arnold who writes Parts, one of her all time favorite books.

In Hi, Fly Guy, Buzz the main character needs a pet for a pet show. He catches a fly for a pet.

After reading this book, Shayla decided she needed a fly for a pet. How was she going to catch a fly for a pet? I didn't know either, but she prayed about it. I swear she did! Anyway a day or two later, a live fly appeared in this canning jar while we were praying for lunchtime meal. (Sorry you can't really see it, he must have been camera shy!)

We studied the fly, reviewed the names of the parts of bugs.

For music, we sang Dr. Jean's I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly.

We played this game while we read I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. Shayla put pieces in place with the story. I was going to include the link so you could print your own, but I couldn't find it.

I guess homeschooling is definately spontaneous!

We LOVE this version of There Was An Old Lady by Simms Taback...we sing it together, page by page, and I stop to let my 22 mo. old fill in the words she knows. Such fun!!!
